The Positive Outlook Of The Last In First Out Inventory Methods
Until very recently, the Last In First Out method (LIFO) was under severe scrutiny from the financial community, and its repeal as an acceptable accounting method seemed imminent. There were pressures from the Securities and Exchange Commission and the International Financial Accounting Standards Board to standardize accounting standards worldwide. In addition, there were political pressures imposed by US Congress to raise additional revenues. Both groups strongly oppose LIFO. However, an SEC Report issued in July 2012 has greatly renewed the lifeline of LIFO indefinitely. In the unlikely case of its ultimate repeal, the author presents some tax opportunities available in this transition period

Secure MultiParty Protocol for Differentially-Private Data Release
In the era where big data is the new norm, a higher emphasis has been placed on models which guarantees the release and exchange of data. The need for privacy-preserving data arose as more sophisticated data-mining techniques led to breaches of sensitive information. In this thesis, we present a secure multiparty protocol for the purpose of integrating multiple datasets simultaneously such that the contents of each dataset is not revealed to any of the data owners, and the contents of the integrated data do not compromise individual’s privacy. We utilize privacy by simulation to prove that the protocol is privacy-preserving, and we show that the output data satisfies ϵ-differential privacy
The role and relevancy of the black church in today\u27s society
The purpose of this study is to gather information about the role and the relevancy of the black church in regards to social issues in today\u27s society. The significance of the study reflects many attitudes of the African-American community. It gives greater insight on the questions surrounding the differing roles of the black church. This study also gives some insight to churches on what the participants say makes the church relevant to them. With this information, churches can become more aware and capable of meeting the needs of the people in the community; The methods used were an in-depth qualitative interview process consisting of exploratory insights from the participants into what they believed the role and relevancy of the black church is today. Taped interviews, written interviews, note-taking, and open-ended guiding questions were also used. The sample size of 25 people and five local pastors included people in eight churches located in the Las Vegas area. The people interviewed were African-American males and females age 18 and above, with various education levels, family structures, and backgrounds. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

On a new theoretical calibration of the Stroemgren hk metallicity index: NGC6522 as a first test case
We present a new theoretical calibration of the Stroemgren metallicity index
hk by using alpha-enhanced evolutionary models transformed into the
observational plane by using atmosphere models with the same chemical mixture.
We apply the new Metallicity--Index--Color (MIC) relations to a sample of 85
field red giants (RGs) and find that the difference between photometric
estimates and spectroscopic measurements is on average smaller than 0.1 dex
with a dispersion of sigma = 0.19 dex. The outcome is the same if we apply the
MIC relations to a sample of eight RGs in the bulge globular cluster NGC6522,
but the standard deviation ranges from 0.26 (hk, v-y) to 0.49 (hk, u-y). The
difference is mainly caused by a difference in photometric accuracy. The new
MIC relations based on the (Ca-y) color provide metallicities systematically
more metal-rich than the spectroscopic ones. We found that the Ca-band is
affected by Ca abundance and possibly by chromospheric activity.Comment: Accepted for publication on The Astrophysical Journal Letter
